Orthoscan TAU 1515 Mini C-Arm

Orthoscan TAU 1515 Mini C‑Arm

The Orthoscan TAU 1515 is the flagship surgical extremity mini C-arm in the current Orthoscan lineup. It combines the full TAU platform with two capabilities not found on any other current-generation Orthoscan: pulsed fluoroscopy and a 15cm x 15cm square CMOS flat panel detector. Pulse rates from 2 to 30 pps reduce radiation dose without sacrificing image quality, while the square detector covers symmetric extremity anatomy in a single field of view. A UPS battery backup, 160 degrees of orbital rotation, and OrthoTouch 2.0 on a 24-inch touchscreen round out a system built for high-volume surgical programs.

Minicarm.com is owned by an Orthoscan co-founder and our team includes certified Orthoscan technicians with hands-on TAU 1515 platform experience across sales, service, and clinical support.

Available for sale, lease, or short-term and long-term rent nationwide.

Key Features and Benefits of the Orthoscan TAU 1515

Feature

Benefit

Feature

15cm x 15cm Square CMOS Flat Panel Detector
The largest detector in the Orthoscan mini C-arm lineup. The square field of view covers 14cm x 14cm at full size and 10.9cm x 10.9cm collimated, with 99-micron pixel spacing and a 42.5-micron focal spot.

Benefit

Full Symmetric Extremity Coverage in a Single Shot
The square field captures hands, wrists, feet, and ankles symmetrically without collimation compromise. Anatomy that requires two exposures on a rectangular detector often fits in one exposure on the TAU 1515, reducing imaging time and cumulative dose.

Feature

Pulsed Fluoroscopy at Five Dose Rates
Continuous, 30, 15, 7.5, and 2 pulses per second. Pulsed fluoroscopy delivers X-ray in brief bursts rather than a continuous beam, reducing dose without changing image acquisition workflow.

Benefit

Significant Dose Reduction Across All Case Types
Lower pulse rates reduce radiation exposure for patients and surgical staff on long fixation cases, pediatric procedures, and multi-view imaging sequences. Surgeons and techs select the lowest pulse rate the case allows without adjusting any other imaging parameters.

Feature

160-Degree Orbital Rotation with Over-Rotation Capability
Full 160-degree orbital arc with over-rotation for extended coverage, paired with 320-degree wig-wag and 430-degree pivot.

Benefit

Every Surgical Projection Without Moving the Patient
The extended orbital range covers lateral, oblique, and AP views from one setup position. Over-rotation gives additional reach for complex anatomy without repositioning the patient or breaking sterile technique.

Feature

UPS Battery Backup
Integrated uninterruptible power supply keeps the system operating through brief power interruptions without data loss or imaging disruption.

Benefit

No Lost Cases or Unsaved Images During Power Events
A power fluctuation or brief outage during a surgical case does not interrupt imaging or result in lost images. The UPS provides time to complete the current sequence and save properly before shutdown.

Feature

Pediatric Dose Filter Plus Pulsed Fluoroscopy
A built-in pediatric dose filter combined with pulsed fluoroscopy gives the TAU 1515 two independent dose-reduction tools for pediatric imaging.

Benefit

The Lowest Achievable Dose for Pediatric Extremity Cases
Applying both the pediatric filter and a low pulse rate together delivers maximum dose reduction for pediatric patients. No other current-generation Orthoscan mini C-arm combines both tools on a single platform.

Feature

OrthoTouch 2.0 with On-Screen Measurements
The OrthoTouch 2.0 interface runs on a 24-inch 1920 x 1200 touchscreen with on-screen measurement tools, DICOM calibration, and cine loop export built in.

Benefit

Measurements at the Point of Care Without Post-Processing
On-screen measurement tools allow surgeons to assess length, angle, and alignment directly on the fluoroscopic image during the procedure. Measurements are calibrated to DICOM and can be saved with the image, reducing the need for separate post-processing or reporting steps.

Feature

Multifunction Wireless Foot Switch, Bilateral Controls, Surgical LED Lights
A wireless multifunction foot switch, bilateral sterile field controls on both sides of the C-arm, and surgical LED lights aligned with the imaging axis.

Benefit

Complete OR Workflow Integration From a Single Platform
The wireless foot switch eliminates cord management in the sterile field. Bilateral controls give both scrubbed and non-scrubbed team members independent imaging access. Surgical LEDs keep the anatomy lit through every orbital position without adjusting OR lighting.

Orthoscan TAU 1515 Mini C-Arm Walkthrough

Hosted by: Christopher Bacon, Founder of Orthoscan and President of Minicarm.com

Hi, I'm Christopher Bacon, president of Minicarm.com and founder of Orthoscan. Today we're going to do an overview of the Orthoscan TAU 1515.

Powering On
Turn the machine on from the button at the back.

C-Arm Articulation
To release the C-arm, undo the bungee cord. Here is the orbital rotation, the vertical range of motion, and the wig-wag rotation.

Imaging Overview
The TAU 1515 comes with a wireless Bluetooth foot switch. You can use it to X-ray or save images. It also has bilateral two-pad controls on the tube head. We'll use the two-pad controls for this walkthrough.

Press the X-ray button to enter the imaging screen, then hold it down for four to five seconds until you get a clean, stable image, then release.

The Minicarm.com Difference

Minicarm.com is owned by an Orthoscan co-founder with direct experience deploying the TAU 1515 into high-volume surgical programs. Our team calibrates the pulsed fluoroscopy and UPS systems as part of every pre-sale inspection.

Common Questions About the Orthoscan TAU 1515

Yes. The TAU 1515 is the current flagship in the Orthoscan surgical extremity mini C-arm lineup and remains in active production. OEM parts, software updates, and manufacturer support are available. Minicarm.com sells certified-refurbished TAU 1515 units and provides independent service contracts for practices that prefer third-party coverage.
Both share the same TAU platform with OrthoTouch 2.0, 160-degree orbital rotation, 24-inch touchscreen, and 42.5-micron focal spot. The TAU 1515 adds three capabilities not found on the TAU 1512: a 15cm x 15cm square detector (vs 15cm x 12cm rectangular), pulsed fluoroscopy at five dose rates, and a UPS battery backup. The TAU 1512 uses continuous fluoroscopy only and has a rectangular detector with higher pixel density (75 vs 99 microns). For practices that prioritize dose reduction or cover pediatric populations, the TAU 1515 is the stronger fit. For practices focused purely on image resolution and do not need pulsed capability, the TAU 1512 is the alternative.
Both systems offer pulsed fluoroscopy at the same five pulse rates: continuous, 30, 15, 7.5, and 2 pps. The core dose-reduction capability is equivalent. The differences are in platform generation: the TAU 1515 runs OrthoTouch 2.0 on a 24-inch display with a 15cm x 15cm square detector, Windows 8.1, and a UPS battery backup. The FD Pulse uses the original OrthoTouch on a 12-inch square display with a 15cm round detector and Windows 7. Orthoscan has ended manufacturer support for the FD Pulse; the TAU 1515 is current-generation with active OEM support. For new purchases, the TAU 1515 is the current pulsed fluoroscopy option.
Pricing on certified-refurbished Orthoscan TAU 1515 systems is typically $60,00 - $72,000. The price depends on year of manufacture, hours of use, included accessories, and warranty tier. Call (800) 643-2998 or request a quote for current availability and exact pricing.
The TAU 1515's integrated UPS keeps the system powered through brief power interruptions, fluctuations, and outages. In a surgical setting this means an unexpected power event during an active case does not interrupt imaging, lose unsaved images, or force an abrupt system shutdown. The UPS provides enough runtime to complete the current imaging sequence, save all images, and initiate a controlled shutdown if power is not restored. It also protects the SSD and operating system from corruption caused by sudden power loss.
