Key Features and Benefits of the Orthoscan TAU 1512

Feature

Benefit

Feature

160-Degree Orbital Rotation
Ten additional degrees of orbital rotation compared to previous-generation Orthoscan surgical platforms, covering lateral, oblique, and AP projections from a single setup position.

Benefit

More Projection Angles Without Moving the Patient
The extended orbital range gives surgeons access to additional views without repositioning the patient or breaking sterile technique, reducing setup time between imaging sequences.

Feature

42.5-Micron Focal Spot, 2k x 1.5k CMOS Flat Panel
Sharper focal spot than previous Orthoscan surgical platforms, with 75-micron pixel spacing across a 15cm x 12cm detector field.

Benefit

Finer Hardware and Fracture Detail at the Surgical Site
Surgeons resolve screw threads, cortical margins, and intra-articular surfaces with greater confidence. The sharper focal spot reduces the need for repeat exposures to confirm hardware placement.

Feature

24-Inch OrthoTouch 2.0 Touchscreen, 1920 x 1200
The largest monitor in the Orthoscan mini C-arm lineup with full HD resolution, HDMI output, and the OrthoTouch 2.0 software interface on a 26-inch articulating arm.

Benefit

Image Review That Matches Surgical Decision-Making Speed
A larger, higher-resolution display reduces the need to lean in or zoom to interpret fine detail. OrthoTouch 2.0 keeps controls accessible without breaking workflow, and HDMI allows output to a separate room display if needed.

Feature

Pediatric Dose Filter
Built-in dose optimization filter designed for pediatric patient presentations, selectable without changing acquisition protocol.

Benefit

Safe Imaging Across All Patient Populations
Pediatric procedures can be handled on the same platform as adult surgical cases without a separate protocol setup or equipment change. Practices serving both adult and pediatric patients cover the full range with a single system.

Feature

Multifunction Wireless Foot Switch with Bilateral Controls
A wireless multifunction foot switch pairs with bilateral sterile field controls on both sides of the C-arm for hands-free imaging from anywhere in the room.

Benefit

Full Imaging Control Without Cables or Positioning Compromises
The wireless foot switch eliminates cord management in the sterile field. Bilateral controls give both scrubbed and non-scrubbed team members independent imaging access without repositioning or reaching across the field.

Feature

Three-Way Brake System and High Pivot Range
Lock, release, and directional brake modes paired with 430 degrees of pivot rotation and a three-way articulation design for maneuvering in tight spaces.

Benefit

Reliable Positioning in Confined OR and Procedure Room Layouts
The directional brake locks the unit on a specific heading for precise corridor and corner navigation. The pivot range and brake modes together allow a single operator to maneuver and position the unit without assistance.

Feature

26,000-Image Storage, Windows 8.1 Embedded, HDMI Output
More than double the on-board image capacity of previous-generation Orthoscan platforms, on a current operating system with HDMI and USB connectivity.

Benefit

Higher Case Volume Between Transfers, Modern OS Compatibility
The larger on-board library reduces the frequency of manual exports and supports high-volume surgical schedules. Windows 8.1 provides a broader range of network, DICOM, and EMR compatibility than the Windows 7 embedded used in earlier Orthoscan platforms.

Orthoscan TAU 1512 Mini C-Arm Walkthrough

Hosted by: Christopher Bacon, Founder of Orthoscan and President of Minicarm.com

Hi, I'm Christopher Bacon, co-founder of Orthoscan and president of Minicarm.com. Today we're going to do an overview of the Orthoscan TAU 1512.

Powering On
The green power button is on the back of the machine next to the push handle. While the system boots up, we'll walk through the C-arm articulation.

C-Arm Range
Here is the orbital rotation, the minimum height, the maximum height, and the wig-wag rotation. Boot-up takes about a minute.

Home Screen
When boot-up is complete, you arrive at the home screen with four options: schedule cases, recall, patient information, or press the foot pedal to go directly into the imaging screen.

Imaging and Foot Pedal Technique
Tap the foot pedal to enter the imaging screen and begin. When acquiring images, hold the foot pedal down for a second or two rather than tapping it. Holding produces a clean, bright image. Tapping produces a grainy result. Hold down, release, wait, then reapply for consistent image quality.

Bilateral Tube-Head Controls
The TAU 1512 has bilateral tube-head controls on both sides of the machine. From the tube-head controls you can:

  • Press the orange button to X-ray
  • Toggle the sterile field light on and off
  • Activate cine loop capture
  • Save the current image
  • Increase or decrease technique manually, or return to auto
  • Rotate the image clockwise or counterclockwise
  • Tag and freeze an image to the top tagged area or bottom tagged area
  • Scroll through previously acquired images

Touchscreen Controls
From the imaging screen, use the touchscreen to zoom into the anatomy and navigate around the image. Double-tap to return to the full view. You can also rotate the image from the touchscreen.

On-Screen Controls
The imaging screen includes the following controls along the interface:

  • Silence alarm button and total fluoroscopy floor time display
  • Copper filter indicator: confirms the filter is engaged and the system is in adult mode
  • Pediatric modes: three separate pediatric dose settings available
  • Technique controls: increase or decrease manually, or return to auto
  • Save image button and print button
  • Cine loop capture
  • Negate button: inverts the image to an X-ray appearance
  • Left and right anatomical tags
  • Edge enhancement button
  • Still/motion toggle: keep at auto for standard use
  • Image rotation and angle adjustment
  • Auto brightness control, manual brightness and contrast, and return to auto

Case Review
Press the case review button to enter the review screen. From here you can save to the hard drive, unsave, print, or send directly to DICOM. Use the back arrow to return to the previous screen.

Patient Information
The patient information button lets you enter patient details and select anatomy type and patient size. The TAU 1512 supports three pediatric modes and adult mode from this screen.

Schedule Cases
From the home screen, press Schedule Cases to add a new scheduled patient. Enter all patient information and press Save, or select a previously scheduled patient from the list. From the scheduled case you can delete the case or begin imaging.

Recall Screen
Press the Recall button from the home screen to access previously completed cases. Select a case to start a new imaging session from it, edit patient information, delete the case, or review stored images. From the review screen you can print, send to DICOM, or save individual images. Press the return button to go back.

Shutting Down
When you are finished, press the green button on the back of the machine by the push handle. Press it momentarily to initiate shutdown. Make sure the machine is fully powered down before unplugging it from the wall.
